How Can Going Green Help the Environment 2

Over recent years, the importance of going green and becoming eco-friendly has become an increasingly relevant issue. From recycling and waste reduction schemes to an emphasis on greener transport and travel, the world as a whole is beginning to wake up to the problems our planet faces.

However, on an individual scale, there is still plenty that can be done to reduce the impact of climate change and promote a greater level of sustainability in our everyday lives.

There are many different ways in which you can incorporate eco-friendliness into your life, from quick and easy tips to more dedicated lifestyle changes. Of course, we all understand the importance of going green, but are you doing everything you can to help the environment?

Sustainability

Becoming fully sustainable and self-sufficient may take a lot of work, time and effort, but for the majority of us, simply feeling comfortable with our contribution towards the future of the planet is enough. Luckily, there are many ways in which you can work to become more sustainable throughout each part of your daily life. At home, you can grow your own produce, allowing yourself the opportunity to enjoy fresh, organic fruit and veg with every meal. At work, you can organise a recycling initiative to help reduce waste. Both of these ideas can help both you and the environment – what’s not to love?

Generosity

Although generosity might not always be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of sustainability, it can actually play an important role. Donating money to environmental charities is perhaps a more obvious answer here, but feeling generous and helping others can actually have a much more widespread impact. From helping an elderly neighbour with their recycling to planting trees and growing your own produce to share with family and friends, there are plenty of ways in which you can spread the love and do some good for the environment at the same time!

Travel

Of course, there are dedicated eco-travel companies out there which will plan your trip in the greenest way possible, but sometimes, just a few small changes can end up having the biggest impact. Commit to experiencing the area on foot or by public transport instead of hiring a car or booking a taxi; eat fresh, local produce and make sure to abide by any customs or cultural traditions in the area you are visiting. For example, if you are planning to visit the Middle East during the holy month of Ramadan, providing small donations can go a long way towards growing your cultural understanding while also doing some good for local people in need.

A Way of Life

At the end of the day, going green is a real way of life. Even if you decide not to become fully self-sufficient, just a few small changes have the ability to change both your life and the lives of others around you for the better. There’s nothing quite like that feeling of accomplishment you get when you know you have helped a tree to grow or nourished a delicious vegetable right from the garden to the plate.

The link between eco-friendliness and a healthy, happy environment is clearer than ever before; as our planet continues to face threats like pollution and climate change, recognising this link and doing our bit to strengthen it for the future has never been more important.

No matter how you choose to live your life, why not make 2018 the year for change and commit to making a positive impact on the environment this year?
